Welcome to my new blog!

I've been on both sides of the couch and think I can lend something to the conversation about mental health. Telling my own personal experience can, hopefully, give others strength and hope that things can get better. I'll talk about other topics, too, and show what coping skills I use to get myself through, both adaptive and maladaptive.

Working again...

So, I decided to re-start this blog, particularly because of the job I am now working.  As someone who has had experience in the mental health system, it seems only fitting that I would find employment as a peer specialist through the local Mental Health Association.  They opened a crisis respite in March for people experiencing emotional difficulties and needing an alternative to psychiatric hospitalization.  It seemed like the perfect place for me to work and it has been a great fit, give or take.  I have really appreciated my co-workers and the support we give to one another as well as meeting all of the house guests that have come to stay at the house.  It's a nice place to stay for five days or so - certainly, a better place than going into the hospital for the same amount of time, if someone is able to safely do so.  I know I would have liked that alternative to have existed for me in the past during various times I might have better served to just have been around people to talk to versus nurses and doctors watching my every step.

I'm glad it exists now for all of those who will come to stay as a guest.  It has already helped many people and, I imagine, will help many more.
